A personal greeting from Steve
Hi, thanks for being here and a warm welcome to Your Lasting Legacy.
As an aged care entertainer / music therapist I meet people in their twilight years at nursing homes. It’s amazing how music connects the dots and uplifts the soul.
During our Singalong sessions I look around and observe the residents as they sing and clap, and I wonder about who they really are.
Some seem happy, others seem sad and lost, others have an uplifting spirit, and I want to know more about each and every one of them.
Who are they? What have they experienced and achieved? What is their Lasting Legacy?
Who did the love, who do they still love, and who loves them?
Sadly, some have Dementia, and we will never know their stories.
It’s a sobering fact that Australia's population is rapidly ageing, with latest statistics showing 17.2 per cent of the population is aged 65 years or over. Life Expectancy is averaged at 83.0 years
Men average 81.1 years Women average 85.1 years
The Gender gap means Women live 4.0 years longer than men on average.
This is the main reason I started YOUR LASTING LEGACY.
So the world can remember a precious life lived and preserved in time.
Finally: If you ask someone what their Life’s Legacy is, everyone will give a different answer.
And the sad fact is that most of those answers will never be known.
Once a life is lived and a person passes on, their stories can vanish forever.
A Life Worth Living Is a Life Worth Remembering, Recording, Preserving and Sharing
Your Lasting Legacy recording isn't just a keepsake. It's the imprint you leave on the world, one that continues to guide, comfort and inspire the people you love, long after you're gone. True legacy is rarely about wealth or monuments; it's about the ripple effect of your choices and your character. I invite you to join us. Let's preserve precious lives, to help inspire future generations to understand more about us and where we came from.
To understand the future, we need to understand and honour our past.
Core Pillars of a Legacy
More than memory, it is a ripple that carries forward. Legacy is rarely about wealth or monuments. It's about the ripple effect of your choices and your character, the way it carries on, in ways both seen and unseen, long after you're gone.
Relational Impact: The way you made people feel, the values you instilled in your family, and the kindness you offered to strangers. Systemic Contribution: The structures, businesses, ideas or community projects you built that continue to serve people. Cultural & Intellectual Echo: The art, writing, or mentorship that shapes how future generations think and act.
Philosophical Perspectives
The Ripple Effect (Stoicism): Marcus Aurelius believed that a good legacy isn’t about fame, which fades, but about acting with virtue right now. Because actions alter reality, a single act of justice ripples forward into the future indefinitely.
Ethics for the Future (Hans Jonas): Modern philosophy emphasizes "intergenerational justice"—the idea that our greatest legacy is leaving behind a planet and a society where future generations can thrive.
Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451: "Everyone must leave something behind when he dies, my grandfather said. A child or a book or a painting or a house or a wall built of a pair of shoes made. Or a garden planted. Something your hand touches some way so your soul has somewhere to go when you die, and when people look at that tree or that flower you planted, you're there."
